CALENDAR 2009

July 25 – Colonial Family Field Day

Time: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

This event returns for a second year with more 18th century games and family fun. Join us as we celebrate summer fun with on-going games and activities including Quoits, Graces, Stilts, Skittles, and Fox & Geese. A marble pit will test your skill and accuracy. Well known reenactor Shari Crawford will once again be on hand to organize more formal competitions. A small $2.00 donation is requested for this event.

August 15 – Movie Night

Time: 8:30 p.m.

Last year you may have joined us for the 1939 classic movie Drums Along the Mohawk. This year we invite you to join us for the 1956 not-so-classic Mohawk, a movie Amazon.com describes as “a delightfully bad movie that succeeds despite itself.” Come prepared for a very different movie going experience as we enjoy an irreverent look at life on the “frontier” Hollywood style. Bring a picnic and enjoy the grounds of the Old Fort before the movie. This event is free and open to all. The movie will begin approximately 8:30 p.m. preceded by a brief introduction. Typical movie refreshments will be available for purchase.

September 12 – “A Taste of History”—  5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Attendees will sample a variety of homemade soups and fresh baked bread and receive a reproduction 18th century porringer to take home. Soup and bread will be available from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Dessert will be served from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Old Fort.  Music will be provided by Liaisons Plaisantes - 18th century period musicians. Adult tickets are just $20.00. Children (12 and under) will receive an Old Fort Johnson mug instead of the porringer and children tickets are just $10.00. Proceeds to be used for masonry repair at the Old Fort.  Advance reservations are required. Please call 843-0300 for your ticket.

October 24 – “Voices of the Past” — 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

This evening event celebrates New York State Archives Month and features readings from 18th & 19th century letters and journals. Admission is $5.00 for candlelight program in the Old Fort. More details to follow.
